Not yet visited our school?

If you are a prospective parent looking for a school for your child, we appreciate the importance of your choice of school and therefore welcome you to our website, invite you to find out about our school online here and strongly encourage you to visit us in order to better aid your decision.

What makes West Heslerton CE unique?

We are a Forest School - lots of our learning takes place outside in fun ways so children don't realise they are learning!

Our children are taught to be very IT literate from an early age. All children, from 4 years old use iPads, with each child having their own iPad for use in school.

Children can join our pre-Reception class (part-time or full-time) following their 4th birthday.

All children in Pre-Reception may have cooked meals provided free of charge.

We teach children to be water confident, swim and life save. The national expectation for 11 year olds is to swim a clear stroke on their front and their back for 25m. Most children achieve this standard by Year 4.

We have amazing grounds and space, children can truly express themselves!

Learning is fun!

We have a maximum limit of 10 pupils per year group.

More about our school

Our dedicated staff provide a quality education for each individual child full of fun and exciting opportunities. Children from age 4 to 11 travel to us from local villages and from other areas to attend our school.

All staff at school look after each pupil taking care to know each individual and ensure they are safe and happy in our care. Our classes are small and have a teacher, a teaching assistant as well as other staff to support each child. All staff and helpers undergo background checks to ensure the safety of each child in our care.

Our spacious school is on one level. We have 3 classes, each with a dedicated, purpose-built classroom with their own cloakroom. We have a well-stocked library, exciting IT facilities and a range of resources to support learners of all ages and abilities. School is surrounded by gardens, play areas, a wildlife study area and a large playing field.

Our school was last inspected as ‘Outstanding’ in October 2014. Copies of Ofsted reports and church (diocese) inspection reports can be found using the links on the left of this page. Tabs along the top of this site will take you to other school information and copies of school policies you may wish to see.

I Thrive Partnership

The I THRIVE project is a partnership between local primary and secondary schools, committed to developing positive links and promoting excellent education for all.  The schools involved are working together to provide rich and diverse educational experiences for the children living in Ryedale and the surrounding area.

The schools currently working together are:

  • Amotherby Community Primary School
  • Hertford Vale C.E Primary School
  • Malton Secondary School
  • Rillington Community Primary School
  • West Heslerton C.E Primary School

By working as a group of schools we believe that the children in our care will develop a better understanding of the local area and their place in today’s society.  The I THRIVE acronym focuses on seven key values which are aimed at celebrating each child as an individual.  The core values of the partnership are fundamental in demonstrating that all the schools involved are committed to developing well rounded children who are confident, proud of who they are and what they can achieve.

I THRIVE stands for:

  • Individuality
  • Teamwork
  • Healthy living
  • Resilience in the face of challenge
  • Inspiration: being inspired and inspiring others
  • Values and being a good citizen in the community
  • Enterprise and being resourceful
